Kay McConnell

Madellan “Kay” McConnell age 77 of Arnold, NE passed away November 14, 2022, at the Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 10:30 am at the United Methodist Church in Arnold, NE with Pastor Bill Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Arnold Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday morning from 9:00 am to service time at the United Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to Arnold Public Schools Foundation or Arnold United Methodist Church. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Arnold are in charge of arrangements. Madellan Kay was born on April 8, 1945, to George and Velma (Tappan) Morrison in Arnold, Nebraska. She was in a hurry and would not wait for the doctor to get there, so the nurse delivered her, she was in a hurry all her life and did not want to be late.

Kay Grew up on a farm southwest of Arnold with her big brother Bill, whom she adored. She attended a country school, Crossroads, until they consolidated into town her sixth-grade year. She graduated from Arnold High School in 1963. After a year of college, she worked in North Platte until her marriage to Bruce McConnell of Sutherland on April 30, 1966.

Bruce and Kay were transferred to several towns in Nebraska while Bruce worked for the telephone company, and lived in Sutherland, St. Edward, Imperial, and Arnold.

One of Kay's most cherished activities was leading children to Jesus through Vacation Bible School. She started teaching when she was a high school junior and finally retired when she was in her late sixties.

Kay was Secretary at the Arnold United Methodist church for 30 years.

Kays biggest joy in life was her kids and grandkids. She rarely missed any of their activities.

Preceding her in death were her parents, in-laws, sister-in-law Patricia Jones, nephew Jim Runner, great nephew Andre Quick, and her beloved son Clark Aaron McConnell.

Leaving her to mourn are her husband of 56 years, Bruce, Daughters Lori of North Platte and Patti (Andy) Schwarz of Arnold; Brother Bill (Laurie) Morrison of North Platte; Daughter-in-law Mindy (Ryan) Boyles of Castle Rock Colorado; Sisters-in-law Betty (Blaine) Runner of Sutherland Nebraska and Jane (Bob) Runner of Ashby Nebraska; Brother-in-law Jim Jones of Eddyville Nebraska; Grandchildren - Courtney Becker; Blake, Bailey, and Bryn Schwarz; Tristen and Reed McConnell.
