Larry Arthur Yarrington passed into heaven on November 26, 2019 at the age of 82 in Castroville, TX.
He was born on October 2, 1937 in Arnold, NE. Larry was raised in the Arnold area, attended the country school north of Arnold and graduated from Arnold High School in 1955. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1957 to 1959. After an honorable discharge from the Army Larry returned to Arnold and continued working in the ranching industry, a way of life he truly loved. In 1963 he married Jacqueline McDonald. In 1964 the family moved to Ft Collins, CO where Larry attended Colorado State University, graduating in 1970. Following graduation Larry and his family moved to Sterling, CO where he began his career in bovine reproductive physiology. Larry genuinely loved his career. He was well known in his industry as an ambitious researcher and eager instructor to ranchers across the western states. Larry was quite honored when consulted by author James A. Michener while doing research for his book Centennial. Later in his career Larry worked for Rio Vista Ranches in La Coste, TX. He enjoyed living in the La Coste and Castroville, TX areas from 1979 until his death. Although he achieved much in his professional career Larry’s most meaningful contribution to his family and friends was his faith. He spoke often of his deep faith, shared it with others and lived a life of service. Larry had many hobbies including western history, traveling, reading, golfing, country music, dancing, and was a master of storytelling.
Larry is survived by his partner in life, Darlene Noah, who will miss his company, humor and love every day. He is also survived by his two loving children Michelle Cox-Shorter (Frank) of Palmer Lake, CO and Michael Yarrington (Michelle) of Sterling, CO. He was a wonderful grandfather to his four grandsons, Conor Cox of Boulder, CO, Liam Cox of San Luis Obiso, CA, Finn Cox of Palmer Lake, CO and Patrick Yarrington of Sterling, CO who will surely miss his colorful story telling. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Yarrington, his mother Verla (Pearce) Sheets, brothers Marion B. (Butch) Yarrington and Loyd Yarrington, and nephew Shon Yarrington as well as many extended family members.
