LaVonne Oxford age 82 of Broken Bow, NE passed away November 4, 2024, at her home in Broken Bow.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Broken Bow. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church or the Prairie Pioneer Center. A time to greet the family will be held on Wednesday, November 6th from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Fay LaVonne Eggleston Oxford was born June 5, 1942, in Callaway, NE to Elijah and Zelda (Hemphill) Eggleston. LaVonne was the 7th child of the Eggleston kids. LaVonne grew up on Ryno Table and near Pressey Park Lake until the age of 6. Then the family moved to Hwy 40 East of Oconto, where she lived until she was married. At the age of 12, LaVonne joined the EUB Church and was a member of the Methodist for over 70 years. LaVonne attended school at Tuckerville, Fairview, and Oconto High School.

On February 15, 1959, LaVonne was united in marriage to Gene Oxford at the Methodist Church in Oconto. The couple made their home in Oconto, then moved to Cozad for a short time, back to Oconto, then to Eddyville, and then to Broken Bow. LaVonne worked at the 1st Avenue Store, TP Café, was an AVON Lady, Coast-to-Coast for Gene O’Brien, and then for BD for 29 years, and 11 months. After LaVonne retired she volunteered at BD, Prairie Pioneer Center, and the Custer County Historical Museum.

LaVonne enjoyed reading, playing the organ, cards, old Western shows, collecting angels, and having coffee with her friends, which she never missed only when she was too ill. LaVonne earned the name “Grannie” in 1982, with her first grandson Lucas John.

Those left to cherish LaVonne’s memory include her husband Gene of Broken Bow, children Eugene (Julie) Oxford of Oklahoma City, OK, Jim (Teresa) Oxford of Lincoln, Valarie Oxford of Broken Bow, and Bryan (Sarah) Oxford of Sandy, OR, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 on the way, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 on the way, brother Charles (Vicky) Eggleston of Gothenburg, sisters Loraine Rogers of Franklin, Judy (Maynard) Struempler of Oconto, Jane (Nick) LiaKos of Kansas City, MO, brothers-in-law Roger (Beverly) Casey of Houston, TX, and David Oxford of Enders, sisters-in-law Sheridan Griffith, of Broken Bow, Bonnie Eggleston of Oconto, and Sandra Eggleston of Broken Bow.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents Elijah and Zelda, infant son Richard Lewis “Brave Warrior”, grandsons Lucas John Heusman and Zachary Levi Heusman, in-laws Clarence and Katharine (Gibson) Oxford, siblings Kenneth (Beulah) Eggleston, Keith (Vi) Eggleston, Donald Eggleston, Glenn (Myrna) Eggleston, Ella Mae (Eggleston) Casey, Ivan Clarence Eggleston, and Lloyd Lynn Eggleston, brother-in-law Jerry Oxford, and sister-in-law Linda Oxford.
