Lee M Auble

Lee M. Auble, 72 of Arnold died May 12, 2019, at the family farm near Arnold.

Lee was born to Vic and Reta (Connor) Auble on March, 30th 1947. Lee and wife, Karla are the 5th generation to live on the Auble farm on Garfield Table, which has been in the Auble family for more than 100 years.

Lee attended grade school at the Garfield school and then attended Arnold High School, graduating in 1965. Lee then attended McCook Community College with a football scholarship for a year.

Lee entered the Army during the Vietnam War seeing in-country combat during the Tet Offensive of 1968. He was promoted to the rank of Sargent during his service.

After serving his country he then attended Chadron State College for two years before returning to the family homestead to farm and ranch.

Lee and Karla (Steffen) were married June 16, 1973, on the hottest day of the year in Griswold, Iowa. They became the parents of 2 daughters Rachel (Andrew) Unick of Ravenna and Page (Jeff) Hammond of Roseville, CA. Also two granddaughters, Libby and Matty Hammond of Roseville, CA. 2 aunts, several cousins, numerous friends, and extended family members; and his class of ‘65 members.

Lee liked working with cattle and horses and rode a few broncs in his day. He also had a life-long love of hunting, fishing, and shooting. His prey of choice was elk, deer, coyotes, and catfish. Lee took many trips to Wyoming and Montana to hunt elk, bighorn sheep, and deer as well as deer hunting in Nebraska. For many years he ran hounds and hunted coyotes all winter – sometimes missing family dinners. He did like his dogs.

 Lee was a member of and an Officer in the Arnold Trap Club as well as a founding member of the Arnold Silhouette High Powered Rife Club, hosting the state match that year. He also was a board member of the Arnold Rural Fire Board for over 30 years.  He rode motorcycles in cross country races, snowmobiles. There wasn’t much he didn’t experience. Even then he took scuba diving lessons and went scuba diving mostly after Walleye.   

A memorial has been established.  Services are May 17, 2019, Friday morning at 10:30 at the Arnold Methodist Church in Arnold.  Burial will be in Garfield Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Arnold Funeral Home. Arnold Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
