Leona Deaver

March 29, 1936 — January 7, 2023

Leona Louise (Seevers) Deaver passed into the arms of the Lord on the afternoon of Saturday, January 7th, at peace and surrounded by loved ones. Leona was born on March 29th, 1936, at home on the family farm west of Merna, NE. She was born to Guy & E. Louise (Hircock) Seevers and was the first of 3 children. They moved a short distance away to Ortello Valley, where Leona and her two brothers Vernon & Roland Seevers were all raised. Leona liked to spend her days helping her mother, gardening, and sewing and riding her horse.  She graduated from Merna High School and later received her Teaching Certificate from UNL.

Leona met the love of her life Herbert John Deaver in 1954. He wowed her with his many charms, but it was believed to be his great roller skating skills that truly stole her heart. They were married in the summer on August 18, 1957, and settled down in the hills of Weissert, NE where they started a dairy farm. Leona and Herb were proud parents to two beautiful and intelligent children, Denise R Lucht and Robb Deaver. They raised their children and farmed together for 35 years before retiring in the town of Broken Bow, NE. In their retirement Leona and Herb worked at the local nursing home, enjoyed card parties with their friends, and were regularly visited by their grandchildren. In Leona's life, she had many passions.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, crafting, and keeping up with her onery husband’s shenanigans. She had a passion for learning and taught elementary school for several years.  Besides working on the family farm, Leona was a secretary for the Custer County rural school district and later on was an assistant in an Optical Office and volunteered much of her time to her family and church.

Leona is welcomed into Heaven by her parents Guy and Louise Seevers, husband Herbert J Deaver, daughter Denise R (Deaver) Lucht, brother and sister-in-law Vernon & Shirley Seevers, dear friend Beverly Peterson and many more loved ones.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robb and Kim Deaver, son-in-law Mark Lucht, grandchildren Daniel, Madison and Delaney Lucht, Megan & husband Ruben Nolasco, Alex Deaver, great grandchild Evelyn Marie Hughes, and brother Roland (Doris) Seevers of Grand Island.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 13, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Pastor Daniel Bear officiating. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery at Weissert, NE.
