Ansley – Marjean Grant, 85, of Ansley died Monday, October 4th,2021, at Brookestone View in Broken Bow.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 8, 2021, at 10:00 am at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Broken Bow, NE with Father Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Ansley Cemetery in Ansley, NE. Memorials are suggested to the Family for later designation. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 4:00 pm at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, family will greet from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday following the rosary at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Marjean Claire (Welte) Grant was born September 2, 1936, in Ansley, Nebraska, to Eugene and Margaret (Anderson) Welte. Marjean attended school at Ansley Public Schools. After high school, Marjean attended Kearney State Teacher’s College where she earned her degree in English and an endorsement in coaching. She student taught in Hastings and taught 1.5 years at Hayes Center. While teaching in Hayes Center, she met Richard (Rich) Grant, and the two of them were married in Ansley on June 6, 1959. They resided in Aurora, York, and Spalding and in 1966 they moved to Ansley. To this union they were blessed with five children: Listy, Karmela, Todd, Donelle, and Stacey, 16 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. Marjean taught English at Ansley Public Schools for 31 years and also coached volleyball. Along with Dale Sampy they initiated the elementary PE program. After retirement in 1997, she enjoyed volunteering in the first-grade classroom helping with morning exercises and enjoyed reading children’s books to the students. During the summer months, when she wasn’t teaching, she loved riding in the truck with Rich all over the country. Marjean also enjoyed dancing, crafting, crossword puzzles, and going to garage sales as well as attending her kids and grandkids school activities. She and Rich also loved their Husker Volleyball, football, and each of their dogs.

Marjean was preceded in death by her husband Richard, father, both mothers, grandparents, mother and father in-laws, one brother, and an infant child. She is survived by her five children, Listy (Alan) Schmidt of Kearney, Karmela (Mark) Shafer, Todd (Marilyn) Grant, Donelle (Tim) Gestwite, and Stacey (Jim) Marsh all of Ansley. Sister’s Dollene (Ray) Muth’s of Goehner, Dorene Hoffman of McCook, and numerous grandkids and great grandkids.
