Mary L. Korte age 94, formerly of Broken Bow, NE passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at the Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, NE.

Funeral services for Mary will be Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at 10:30 A.M. at the Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE with Pastor Matt Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Township Cemetery south of Broken Bow. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. with family greeting 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE. Memorials are suggested to the Broken Bow Public Library. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be left at www.govierbrothers.com.

Mary was born September 17, 1924, in McCook, NE to Joseph Franklin and Kathryn (Phillips) Downs. Mary graduated in 1942, from McCook High School, then went onto and graduating in 1945 from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, CO. On June 16, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Virgil Korte to this union a son Don and daughter Susan were born.

Mary was an RN for the hospital in Broken Bow serving as Director of Nursing, she supervised the Hospital move from the Carothers Hospital to the Jennie M Melham Memorial Medical Center, Mary was very involved in helping with the design of the Jennie M Melham Memorial Medical Center. Mary enjoyed Antiquing and Carnival Glass. Mary was very active in “Custer’s Last Stitch” in when living in the Broken Bow area, then the Lincoln, Columbus Quilt Guilds

Mary is survived by her son Don (Susan) Korte of Columbus, NE, daughter Susan (Hal) Dumas III of Visalia, CA, four grandchildren Katie (Mark) Petro of Sherman Oaks, CA, Alex (Paulina) Dumas of Glendale, CA, Trevor Korte of Columbus, NE, Andrew (Jillian) Korte of Goodland, KS, sister Ileen Lenhart of Hastings, NE, and one great-granddaughter Scarlett Korte.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband Virgil, parents Franklin and Kathryn, four sisters Elizabeth, Roberta, Jody, and Helen.
