Broken Bow, NE- Mary Lavaughn. Poland age 87, formerly of Sargent died Friday, October 19, 2018, at the Brookestone View Care Home in Broken Bow.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at 10:30 AM at the Church of Christ in Sargent with Pastor Marty Robbins officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Sargent. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation or the Sargent American Legion Auxiliary. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening 5 PM to 8 PM at the Church of Christ in Sargent.
Mary L. Poland was born on March 24, 1931, in Sargent, NE to John Gordon and Lucy (Morford) Johnson.
Mary was raised in the Sargent area with her three brothers and one sister. Mary graduated from Sargent High School. Mary started dating Gean A. Poland upon him returning home from the War and was united in marriage on August 15, 1947, to this union two sons were born, Marvin and Jerry.
Mary worked at the Sargent Telephone office. Mary and Gean built a Bowling Alley with her sister and brother-in-law and operated it for several years.
Mary was a member of the Sargent American Legion Auxiliary since December 1953.
Mary is survived by her sons; Marvin (Mary Sue) Poland of Spearfish, SD, Jerry (Pam) Poland of Sargent, NE, seven grandchildren, Monica Bruha and Fiance, Mike Sedlacek of Sandia, TX, Monty (Darci) Poland of Plattsmouth, NE, Michael Poland of Spearfish, SD, Mark (Emmy) Poland of Omaha, NE, Debra Poland of North Platte, NE, Joseph (Tanya) Poland of Kearney, NE and John Mason of Gering, NE, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gean A. in 1991, an infant son, parents Gordon and Lucy, three brothers; Earl, Bob, and Martin, and one sister Berniece Partridge
