Max Bristol, age 81, of Kearney, Nebraska died Wednesday December 13th at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held Monday December18th at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Kearney, NE with Pastor Greg Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday December 17th at Govier Brother Mortuary in Broken Bow, Nebraska from 1pm to 6 pm with family present from 2 pm to 3 pm. A visitation will also be held on Monday morning 8 AM until service time at the church. Bristol was born on October 17, 1936 at Ansley, NE to Ernest and Dorothy (Miller) Bristol. On June 19, 1955 Max was married to Lenore Slingsby. They were married 62 years. Max with his wife Lenore and his 5 children spent the early years of their lives farming. They later moved to Broken Bow. He became the Custer County Weed Superintendent. In 1994 Max and Lenore moved to Laramie, Wyoming where he had the pleasure of being the Albany County Weed and Pest Control Supervisor. In 2003 they retired and moved to Kearney, NE. After his retirement he continued to spray noxious weeds for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. Max enjoyed life to the fullest with his wife Lenore, children and grandchildren. He spent his life caring for the land by farming and controlling noxious weeds. He received awards from county, state and the EPA. He wrote the book on weeds. People say he was the strongest man they ever met. Most of the time a person would not be able to tell if he was serious or joking around, that how good he was at giving you a hard time. In his early years he grew the garden to feed his family, in the later years he grew a garden for everyone’s enjoyment. As a team Max and Lenore treated everyone as family. Max is survived by his wife Lenore of Kearney, sons; Mike (Lisa) Bristol of Kearney and Russ (Lisa) Bristol of Broken Bow, daughters; Cindy and significant other Terry Ross of Kearney, and Linda (Wayne) Lienemann of Minden, a sister Phyllis Bransitter of Kearney, 13 grandchildren; Craig, Derek, Brittney, Ryan, Zach, Abby, Mackenzie, Drake, Hannah, Mary, Corey, Kevin, and Erik, 4 great grandchildren; Jaelyn, Aubrey, Avianna, and Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Scott from the Philippines, a brother Dean, a sister Melva, a half brother Wilburn, half sisters Esther, Evelyn, and Olive, and two grandchildren; Austin and Sydney.
