Melissa “Missy” Filkins Harter, age 71, of Broken Bow, NE, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025, at her home.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Berean Bible Church in Broken Bow. The service will be livestreamed at www.govierbrothers.com. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.govierbrothers.com
Melissa “Missy” Harter was born on April 5, 1954, in Herkimer, NY, to Bruce Harold and Caroline Mary (Swanston) Harter. Missy grew up in Jordanville, NY, where she attended kindergarten and first grade. She then attended Owen D. Young Central School in VanHornesville, NY, graduating in 1972. Missy went on to earn a bachelor’s degree, graduating from Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY, in 1976.
Immediately after college, she joined Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation, first as a sales representative in Utica, NY, then as a regional sales manager in Altoona, PA, and later in Summerville, SC. It was in Summerville that Missy met Charlie Tangemann, III, whom she married on July 29, 1995. They moved to Cheyenne, WY, a few years later, then Hastings, NE. They have resided in Broken Bow for the last three years.
In her youth, Missy was a skilled horsewoman and loved animals of all kinds. In her adult life, she enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, and thrift and consignment store shopping. She attended Berean Bible Church.
Missy is survived by her husband Charlie Tangemann, III of Broken Bow, brother Jason Harter (Jeanine) of Fly Creek, NY, sister Janet (Les) Saucier of Brevard, NC, and sister Lucinda Harter Henson of Boonville, KY, as well as a niece, two nephews, and numerous cousins. Missy was preceded in death by her parents.
