Ramona Guggenmos

Ramona Guggenmos age 90 of Brewster, NE passed away December 7, 2021, at her home in Brewster.

Ramona Jean Guggenmos was born October 25, 1931, to Lawrence and Mabel (Hartson) Holmes at Milburn, NE She grew up on the family farm where she was born and attended grade school District C-12 Milburn, graduating from the 8^th grade as Salutatorian of Custer County. She attended Broken Bow High School graduating with the class of 1949. Ramona went into the teaching profession and taught two years at Walworth and two years at Milburn.

On November 26, 1952, she married Walter A.  Guggenmos and the couple lived on the ranch nine miles east of Brewster. To this union three children were born. Ramona was baptized in the United Church of Christ at Brewster on July 16, 1961 and become a member March 21, 1967. She was a deacon of the Church and taught Sunday School, Bible School, and served as a Sunday School Superintendent. She was a member of the Brewster Women’s Fellowship for many years and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary for 70 years at Brewster, for many years holding offices in the organizations. She also was a 4-H leader when her children were growing up.

Her family was very important, she gave her husband a helping hand and loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, embroidery, raising flowers, and especially loved music and to dance. She played the piano and organ by ear and played for organizations to which she belonged and in past years played occasionally for church. As a teenager she was in talent contests and played on the local radio station, beginning at the age of four.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Mabel Holmes, brother, and sister-in-law Lloyd and Jureen Holmes, and one great granddaughter Alayah Guggenmos.

Ramona is survived by her husband Walter “Billy” A Guggenmos of Brewster, children Larry (Patty) Guggenmos of Brewster, Rhonda (Gordon) Bradley of Hastings, and Roger (Cindy) Guggenmos of Brewster, nine grandchildren: Jesse Guggenmos, Justin (Dianne) Guggenmos, Lloyd (Lana) McIntyre, Dacia (Kyle) Oakeson, Jordan (Molly) McIntyre, Cody (Roxy) Guggenmos, Cory (Jennie) Guggenmos, Tyler (Sherry) Guggenmos, and Brayden Guggenmos, and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be Friday, December 17, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Brewster Community Center in Brewster with Don Schauda officiating. Burial will be in the Brewster Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Brewster Legion Auxiliary, Brewster Fire & Rescue, or United Church of Christ in Brewster. A visitation will take place on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm with family greeting 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE.
