Rick Nielsen age 59 of Randolph, NE passed away September 9, 2024, at the Colonial Manor in Randolph, NE.

Rick was born to Kenneth and Aletha Imogene “Jean” (McNulty) Nielsen on November 28, 1964, at the Broken Bow Community Hospital in Broken Bow, NE. Ken and Jean divorced in 1967, Ken married Olive (Mills) Turner in 1968, blending their families.

Rick attended elementary, middle, and high school in Broken Bow until he sustained a massive brain stem injury in an automobile accident. He later obtained his GED.

As a teenager Rick enjoyed playing sports, especially football. He also enjoyed fishing and other outdoor activities.

As an adult Rick lived in several structured housing units until January 2000, when he moved to Village Northwest in Sheldon, IA. He enjoyed a full life at Village Northwest. He moved to Colonial Manor in Randolph, NE in July of 2024.

Rick was preceded in death by his father Kenneth, stepsister Toni M. Turner, and grandparents.

Rick is survived by Olive Nielsen, Joseph Turner, Terri Oehm, Scott (Mary Ann) Nielsen, Jean Burnett, sisters, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, guardian and friend Stephanie B. Schmidt, and friends of Village Northwest and Colonial Manor.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE. Inurnment will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery. A register book may be signed at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.govierbrothers.com
