Robert P. Schmitz (Bob) passed away on November 2, 2021, at Kearney Region Hospital. He was a resident at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, Nebraska. Bob was born on March 6, 1946, in Oconto to Frank and Irene (Barrett) Schmitz now deceased. He was predeceased by sisters Mary Schmitz, Yvonne Herman, Agnes Meyerring and brothers Francis Schmitz and Gaylord Schmitz. He is survived by two sisters Catherine Schmitz and Anne (Byron) Finnefrock of Denver, Colorado, brother Paul (June) Schmitz of Hyattsville, Maryland, and many nieces and nephews. Bob served in the US Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. He served in Korea. He graduated from Chadron State College and earned a Master’s degree in business from University of Nebraska Kearney. Bob owned a farm and ranch in Merna Nebraska. He was a member of the Rodeo Cowboy Association and was very proud of many silver buckles he won over the years. Bob was a member of the (VFW) Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a previous President of that organization. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the local VFW post. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Broken Bow on Tuesday November 16, 2021, at 10:30 a.m., with a Rosary and visitation at 9:30 a.m. the Church.
