Rodney Merritt Hammond age 73, formerly of the Sargent, NE area passed away Monday, November 5, 2018, at the Park Place Nursing Home in Grand Island, NE.
Memorial funeral services for Rodney will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018, at 10:30 A.M., at the Church of Christ in Sargent, NE with Pastor Wayne Hasselquist and Pastor Marty Robbins officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE. Rodney Merritt Hammond was born July 18, 1945, in Wyoming to LeRoy and Marie (Robbing) Hammond. At an early age, Rodney was raised by his grandparents Anna and Ora Deal. Rodney attended Sargent Public Schools. On June 29, 1969, he married Barbara Osentowski, to that union a daughter was born Brigitte.
They lived in Sargent, where Rodney worked for Poland Chevy as a parts man for 30 years. Rodney then worked as the Sargent Police Chief for 15 years. Rodney enjoyed family, car shows, older cars, gun shows, and watching remote airplanes. Rodney and his family moved to Grand Island in 1995, where Rodney worked for Central Catholic Schools and Loomis Fargo, then retiring. His wife Barbara passed away in October of 2012.
Rodney is survived by his daughter Brigitte Dickey and fiancé Todd Jarosz of Grand Island, NE, two grandchildren Logan Dickey of Grand Island and Keisha Dickey of Litchfield, NE, brother Bob (Patty) Hammond of Littleton, CO, sister Ruth (Joe) Campbell of Denver, CO, nieces, and nephews.
Rodney is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, parents LeRoy and Marie, two brothers Gene and infant LeRoy.
