A lifelong Hooker County rancher through and through, Roger Parnell French, 85, left this life on January 28th, 2022. He was born on November 7th, 1936, in North Platte, NE to Gerald Cooper French and Esther Parnell Wiggins/French. He attended Mullen High School where he lettered in football, basketball, and track all 4 years and he dated a cheerleader, his future bride to be. Roger and Beverly Ann Cox married on August 23rd, 1959. They graduated from the University of Nebraska where Rog received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 1961. They were huge Cornhusker fans, win or lose. They both loved living on the ranch that was homesteaded by Roger’s grandparents, Albert and Caroline Rogers/French. He began raising registered Charolais cattle in 1964. He served as the state president of the Nebraska Charolais Association and was a member of the Board of Directors for many years. He was selected as the group’s outstanding member in 1969. In 1970 he and his father received the Grant-Hooker Soil Conservation Award. He was active in the Nebraska Beef Cattle Improvement Association and served as their president. His exceptional mechanical ability kept everything with a motor going and thus kept the ranch running. Rog also received many awards from the Sandhills Cattle Association.
They raised three children on the ranch and enjoyed all that ranch life is. Rog smiled from ear to ear when the bulls would eat out of his hand. His vacations were either to visit family or to the cattle barn at the Nebraska State Fair and the Denver Stock Show. He loved his family and the ranch with all that he was. He continued to ranch until he was 82 years old.
Roger is survived by his three children Wanda (Brian) Lousberg of Sterling, CO, Anne (Howard) Kauk of Castle Rock, CO and Jerry (Tonya) French of Rawlins, WY: seven grandchildren Chad Lousberg of Greeley, CO, Shanna (Sean) Lousberg/Murphy of Severance, CO; Megan (Jeremy) Kauk/Denissen of Parker, CO, Courtney Kauk of Parker, CO; Shiloh French, Taylah French, and Chisum French all 3 of Rawlins,WY: four great grandchildren, Cade Murphy, Josie Denissen, Jett Denissen, and Makenna Murphy; a sister, Alice (Con) Urbach of Denton, NE; a brother, Gene (Wilma) French of Broken Bow, NE and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
