Sherry Sittler, age 68 of rural Broken Bow, passed away at her home with family by her side on January 7, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer. Private graveside services at the Merna Cemetery will be held for the family, with the Rev. John Carney presiding. A visitation will be held on Tuesday January 9, 2017, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary. An informal gathering of family and friends will be held at the One Box Convention Center on February 10, 2018. Memorials are suggested to the family for distribution to the following charities: Compassion International, Cru, Focus on the Family, and KJLT. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Sherry was born on November 1, 1949 to Stanley and Virginia (Phillips) Martin. She attended school at Custer Center and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1968. She went on to graduate from Kearney State College in 1972 with a degree in elementary education. Sherry married Jerry Sittler on August 25, 1972. Sherry taught in Weissert for two years before leaving to work with Jerry on the farm. She operated the grain cart and tillage equipment, picked up parts, and was part of a custom-cutting silage crew. Sherry made a commitment to the Lord at an early age and served the church in many capacities. She volunteered with the local domestic crisis center and had a heart for helping those who crossed her path. She loved music and dancing and could be found at the Miller Community Center on a Saturday night. In recent years, she taught herself how to play the harmonica. She enjoyed playing cards and working on jigsaw puzzles. She was a lover of sweets, especially frozen candy bars and ice cream. When her health allowed, she enjoyed attending her grandkids' activities. Sherry was preceded in death by her husband, father, and infant sister Angelia. She is survived by her children: Jennifer (Albert) Kendrick of Thornton, CO; Jason (Jennifer) Sittler of Broken Bow; Lindsey Sittler of Omaha; LeAnne Kaiser of Omaha; and Daniel Sittler of Broken Bow. She was blessed with two grandchildren: Jerry and Lia Sittler of Broken Bow. She is survived by her mother, Virginia Martin of Broken Bow and siblings: Bob (Charlene) Martin of Broken Bow; Eugenia (Steve) Wright of Lincoln; and Jeff (Beth) Martin of Palm Bay, FL, in addition to a host of extended family.
