Thomas James Keefe

Sargent, NE – Thomas Keefe age 65 of Sargent died Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at his home. Services will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018, at 10:00 AM at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sargent with Father Jim Hunt officiating.  A visitation will be held on Sunday evening 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Sargent.  A rosary service will follow at 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the church.  Thomas (Tom) James Keefe was born April 21, 1952, in Burwell, NE to Francis and Audrey (Hansen) Keefe in Burwell, Nebraska.  Tom and his siblings, Dennis, Shirley, Cheryl, and Diane spent their time on the ranch where Tom’s love for horses and ranch life began. His favorite place in the world was on the back of a horse, helping cousins and friends work cattle, as well as his own. A few of his favorite horses were Prince, Ace, and Roanie. Tom graduated from Sargent High School in 1970 and later attended college in Colorado. Tom married Brenda Brass on August 28, 1976, in Sargent. The couple spent lots of time with friends and enjoyed the company of others. Tom was active in the community; working for the city for 20+ years, volunteering on the Fire Department and playing slow pitch softball for CCI, Sargent Firemen and Haney’s. Tom and Brenda had two boys and he enjoyed teaching them the ropes and the value of hard work. Tom enjoyed bulldogging and team roping at rodeos, coyote hunting with his coyote hounds, visiting with his family and friends, reminiscing about the good ole’ days and watching his children and grandchildren do their various activities. He was their biggest cheerleader. He also loved to drive around and go on runs with his furry co-pilot, Ozzie. Tom retired and helped on a local family ranch doing the things that he loved. His likable personality and sense of humor made him a friend to all. Tom will be greatly missed by many. Tom is survived by his wife Brenda of Sargent, sons; J.D. (Steph) Keefe of Sargent and Gage (Amber) Keefe of Sargent, 3 grandchildren; Keaton, Kooper, and Kinley all of Sargent, two sisters; Shirley Gottula of Merna and Diane Anderson of McIntosh, SD, he is also survived by a brother-in-law Francis Nevius of Sargent, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Gay Ash of Sargent, sister-in-law LuAnn Lewis of Sargent, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Jack and Mary Brass, a brother Dennis, a sister Cheryl Nevius, a brother-in-law Stan Gottula and a nephew Robbie Keefe. Honorary Pallbearers are Keaton Dowse, Kooper Keefe, Kinley Keefe, Tom’s nieces, nephews and cousins, Clyde Thompson, Zac Tobias, Kasey Tobias, Larry Young, Jim Ash, Dan Dowse, Tim Clayton, Mike Kozeal, Rocky Coons, Floyd Slagle, Dick Grint, and Sam Grint.
