January 11, 1954 — May 8, 2021

Vernon V. Mobley age 67 of Oconto passed away May 8, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. Cremation was chosen.

On May 8, 2021 Vernon “Vern” Verlon Mobley Jr. was called home to heaven. Vernon was born on January 11, 1954 in Baxley, Georgia. He enjoyed growing up with his sisters and brothers, hunting and fishing in Georgia and Florida. Vernon felt a strong patriotic calling and joined the United States Army as a young man. He spent his military career serving with his brothers in arms beginning with the 1/509 Airborne in Germany. From there he traveled on to the 193rd in Panama. After attending NCO Academy in Fort Benning, Georgia Vernon moved to Fort Carson where he was a member of the 4th Infantry Division. Vernon enjoyed being in charge of the young troops and moved on to Fort Dix where he was a Drill Sargent. The Army moved Vern to the Panzer Caserne in Germany. After spending several years with his family in Germany, Vern relocated again to Fort Carson, Colorado. Vern spent his final years in the Army with the 4th and the 8th Infantry Divisions. While serving at Fort Carson, Vern explored his other passion, working with horses. He became a master farrier and spent many years caring for horses. Once he retired from the Army, Vern spent time with the United States Post Office and eventually moved to Nebraska to retire in the country.

Vern loved his family and enjoyed many activities with them. Vern’s love of horses included being a member of a riding group that participated in parades winning many awards for their horsemanship. Vern loved history and was a member of the Colorado Territorial Militia a historical reenactment group. He loved shooting the black powder guns and throwing knives and tomahawks at the mountain man rendezvous’ held in the mountains of Colorado. Vern felt the most joy when he would ride his horse Thunder in the mountains on trail rides with his family, often trekking up to hidden gems of waterfalls and cabins to enjoy picnic lunches. He greatly enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader and sharing his love of the outdoors with his sons. He had great pride in his children and tried to participate in their activities and cheer them on when he could. He passed his love of animals, guns, fishing, and the outdoors to all of his children and grandchildren.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and his beloved wife Kelly Daniel. Vern is survived by his children Michele Matte (Falcon, Colorado) and her children Nathaniel, Nicholas, and Catherine, son Vernon Mobley III (Callaway, Nebraska) and his wife Amber Mobley and their children Aubrey, Klayton, and Alexis, and son Matthew Mobley (Falcon, Colorado) and his wife Michelle Mobley and their children Quentin, Vivian, and Cash. Vern was blessed with bonus daughters Danielle Johnson, Renee Payne, and Kelsey Kimble. He has also left behind many beloved family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
