Virginia Martin age 89, was born March 29, 1929, in her home 9 miles N.W. of Sargent, NE and died August 23, 2018, at Quality Senior Villages in Broken Bow, NE.
Virginia was raised in Sargent on a farm and attended most of her elementary and high school years in Sargent. In March of 1946, Virginia’s parents (Virgil and Bessie Phillips and sister, Karen) moved to Broken Bow. Virginia graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1947.
Virginia married Stanley Martin December 24, 1948. Virginia and Stanley had 5 children: Sherry, Bob, Eugenia, Angelia (stillborn), and Jeff. During her early years of marriage, Virginia worked as an operator for the telephone company and later drove the bus for the Broken Bow school system. It was well known that Virginia would stop the bus until everyone was quiet if there was too much noise. Years later kids shared memories of Virginia being their driver. She also helped Stanley on the farm; driving tractors, laying irrigation pipe, planting and harvesting a huge garden each summer. In addition, Virginia played the piano and organ for the Church of God and held other positions in the church.
Even though she was quiet, Virginia could be very witty and usually had great come back lines. Those that cared for her at Quality Senior Villages shared how she made them laugh or brightened their day. A special Thank You to All the Staff of Quality Senior Villages and Asera Care Hospice that cared for Virginia.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Bessie Phillips, her husband, Stanley Martin, her infant daughter, Angelia Martin, daughter Sherry Sittler, son-in-law Jerry Sittler and infant granddaughter, Stephanie Martin.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Eugenia (Steve) Wright of Lincoln, NE, her sons Bob (Charlene) Martin of Broken Bow and Jeff (Beth) Martin of Palm Bay, FL. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren: Jennifer (Albert) Kendrick, Jason (Jennifer) Sittler, Lindsey Sittler, LeAnne Kaiser, Daniel Sittler, Amanda (Adam) White, Jeremy (Tara) Wright, Patrick (Elissa) Martin, Brian (Anna) Martin, Paige (Tom) Yockey, Broderick (Heather) Martin, and McCall Martin; and ten great-grandchildren; Jerry and Lia Sittler, Sophia and Olivia White, Felicity, Cailyn, and Lana Wright, Lucy, Clancy, and Felicity Martin, and Blayke Yockey.
